A Mission of the Racine County Human Services Department is to foster healthy, self-reliant individuals and families.

In order to accomplish our Mission, the Human Services Department provides a host of prevention and treatment programs for children and families. These programs strive to make available the most cost-effective services which will help children and families attain a healthy, self-sufficiency. Many programs are geared toward specific populations such as abused/neglected children or juveniles involved in the juvenile justice system. Some are court-ordered services such as Intensive Supervision, the Afternoon Reporting Center or Supervised Visitation. Still others are more inclusive, supporting individuals’ goals for educational or vocational achievement.

It should be noted that the services offered to families and children are dynamic. That is, as our citizens’ needs change, we attempt to modify existing programs or create and implement new ones within the existing budget constraints. Federal, State and private grants are an important funding mechanism for the Human Services Department. More than 80% of our operating budget comes from non-tax levy sources. Many of the services are provided through contracts with local agencies which further strengthens our community.
