Life SkillsMinimize

The Life Skills program is a strength-based format that assesses a youth's competencies and provides programming to increase those competencies. The youth's parents' competencies are also assessed when appropriate and possible. Through this process, skills that need to be developed or enhanced for both the youth and his/her parents are identified.

The strengths and needs of a youth and family are addressed to provide the youth and family with the positive attitudes, knowledge and skills they need to function positively and constructively. Examples of skills that are developed in this program include, but are not limited to, reading, math, anger management, impulse control, conflict management, communication, problem solving, decision making, social behavior (e.g. restaurant, theater, beach, school, etc), community values, selecting friends, choosing positive role models, free time activities (e.g. sports, hobbies, fine arts), general informational, national and world knowledge.

For more information about the Life Skills program, contact  Glenn Larson, Delinquency Supervisor.
